MELT Series – The Beauty of Letting Go
This time-lapse video is part of my ongoing MELT series, a project exploring transformation, vulnerability, and impermanence through the process of melting. For this piece, I created a portrait of Dewi – temporarily ‘blinded’ – photographed in my studio, then printed and frozen in a solid block of ice. I intervened with the ice, let nature do its part, and captured over 800 raw photographs during the melting process. These were carefully post-processed and edited into a time-lapse video in Premiere Pro, accompanied by my own soundscape, Trust in the Melting Process.
The still version of this portrait – before the ice – was used as the cover artwork for the album Blind by American band Black Swans.
Each image from the MELT series is available as a signed, sealed, and numbered limited edition fine art print in three sizes.
The second time-lapse features Musa, another powerful portrait slowly revealed through melt. Watching the image shift, soften, and finally release itself from the ice evokes a deeply human process — of surrender, resilience, and transformation.
This preview shows a compressed, fast-paced version of the melting process.
The full high-resolution works are part of exhibitions and dedicated art presentations.
The videos shown here are part of a larger ongoing series.
This is just a glimpse into a larger body of work.
Several pieces remain unseen, held back to preserve the magic of discovery at future exhibitions.
On June 13 we kick off at Kunstschouw (Burgh-Haamstede) with our first big reveal: a monumental ice block slowly melting, time and transformation in motion.
Created together with my son, audiovisual artist Victor Dissel.
Follow us for updates & behind-the-scenes — more meltings are on their way., in a much slower pace.
